Lying on the limestone rich slopes of the Waipara Valley, the eight hectare vineyard of Waipara Downs produces quality wines from the estate grown grapes, the first of which were established in 1985.
Waipara Downs Wines’ vineyard was once part of the 320 hectare prime lamb finishing farm, bearing the same name, which is owned by the Berry family and is still producing lambs for export as part of their farming operation.
The vineyard area is 8 hectares, with plantings of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling. Scott Berry the next generation, has returned home after a year in France working in the industry. He is now Waipara Downs’ winemaker and vineyard manager.
Waipara Downs wines show traditional French style winemaking along with varietal Characters unique to the Waipara Valley.
