The owners of Mount Cass Vineyards-Alpine Pacific Wines, Chris and Carol Parker, purchased the business in May 2002. Vineyards on Mt. Cass Road were planted in 1982, as the then owners and developers believed that the terroir was not too much different from Marlborough.
The Teviotdale Hills and Mount Cass provide added benefits by protecting the vineyards from the cool easterly sea breezes.
The main wine brands are Mount Cass emphasizing the location of the vineyards on Mt. Cass Road; and the Hanmer Junction, which associates the company with the tourist resort of Hanmer Springs. Special attention is paid to vine management to produce wines of excellent quality by manual leaf plucking, crop thinning, and removing second set grapes, in particular the red varieties to provide the grapes with the optimum conditions to ripen.
Over the past two years the company has built a tidy domestic market, mainly in Christchurch, and has brought on board excellent export agencies in USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Ireland and the Untied Kingdom.
