This small, artisan vineyard and winery began life in 1989 as Waipara Springs Wine Co., grew into Mark Rattray Vineyards and now has evolved into Floating Mountain Winery. Owned by Mark and Michelle Rattray, it is a continuation of Mark’s thirty year involvement in the New Zealand wine industry.
Production is just 1000 cases of Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Scheurebe (a Riesling cross) grapes, grown in the sheltered vineyard, planted in 1983. Low yields combined with little or no irrigation, open canopies and hand picking provides small berries with concentrated flavours, colour and aromas.
Hands-on care through all stages and gentle handling with minimal intervention in the winery allows the fruit to reveal intense flavours.
These skillfully crafted wines are marketed worldwide, and direct to New Zealand’s finest restaurants and lodges.
