How to Get to the Waipara Valley

The Waipara Valley is situated only 40 minutes drive north of Christchurch International Airport and Christchurch city, the capital of the South Island. 

Located 60 Km north of Christchurch on SH1, the Waipara Valley with 24 wine producers (plus more to come) geographically forms the start to the Alpine Pacific Triangle. This major tourist icon has more diverse natural features that can be visited with travel times of under two hours than any where else in New Zealand.

The other way to access the Waipara Valley is from the West Coast on SH7 through Hanmer Springs the idyllic alpine thermal resort.

Waipara Valley has everything at its finger tips and with a diverse range of Wineries, it forms the a part of the icon Alpine Pacific Triangle, in conjunction with Kaikoura and Hanmer Springs.

The Waipara Valley is a natural destination, it is a comfortable drive whether heading north or south on either SH1 or SH7 from any of the locations mentioned above. The charm of the Waipara Valley is in the diversity of vineyards and wineries both in size and setting and yet they are all within a 20 minute drive.

In fact, the Waipara Valley is really at the centre of the other attractions of Christchurch, Kaikoura and Hanmer Springs.

The Waipara Valley can also be easily found travelling South from the Picton Ferry to Kaikoura on SH1, it is the next stop after the magnificent setting of Kaikoura with rugged mountains set against a stunning coastline with the star attraction of Whale Watch.
