Weka Pass Railway

About
The Weka Pass Railway is a historic rural railway using both vintage steam and diesel-electric locomotives on 12.8 km of scenic line through the unique limestone beauty of the Weka Pass out of Waipara, where superior weather patterns provide crystal clear air and high sunshine hours. The Weka Pass Railway is a totally voluntary organisation, whose members are dedicated to the preservation of New Zealand's rail heritage.

Location
The Weka Pass Railway is based at Waipara, approximately 60km north of Christchurch, in New Zealand's South Island. Turn off at the SH1 and SH7 junction and follow the signposts through the Village of Waipara on Glenmark Drive to find Glenmark Station on the North side of the Village.

Timetable
Public trains run every 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, every Sunday in January and most public holidays. Trains will usually be hauled by our 1909 built "A" Class steam locomotive number 428, the only one of it's type still operational. In unforeseen circumstances, for repairs or during exceptional fire risk in summer months, our steam locomotive may be replaced  without prior notice by the railway's vintage Dg Class diesels, numbers 770 & 791.
